“Settlement ends suit over death in elevator”

The family of an 8-year-old boy who was crushed in an antique elevator at the Bethel Inn has dropped a wrongful-death lawsuit in exchange for $3 million and a plan to prevent future accidents. Tucker Smith died in August 2001 after he was trapped between the doors of a moving elevator while visiting the inn with his parents and two sisters.
