Biography

Originally from a small town in Montana, Kendi Dykema is a proud first-generation college and law school graduate – a milestone that fuels her commitment to empowering others and fighting on behalf of those in need of justice. Kendi joined the Garmey Law team immediately after graduating from the University of Maine School of Law, where she excelled in academic and clinical settings. Kendi honed her legal skills through hands-on experience as a Student Attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic, where she represented clients in protection from abuse, immigration, family law, and criminal law matters.  While in law school, Kendi also found time to serve as a member of Maine Law Review.

Kendi’s diverse background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arizona State University, long-term volunteer work in Ecuador caring for underserved children, and teaching English to folks who had previously never been to school. These experiences uniquely position her to approach legal challenges with compassion and highlight her longstanding commitment to social justice and community service.  Having spent the better part of a decade as a server and bartender at a busy Portland restaurant, Kendi has also developed a knack for managing others’ expectations and listening to their stories. This know-how has greatly enhanced her ability to relate to clients from all walks of life.

Beyond her passion for her profession, Kendi is an avid traveler who loves to explore other cultures around the world. Her adventures have solidified her appreciation for varying perspectives, enriching her advocacy work and allowing her to connect with clients from any background.

Having been born “away” and traveled the world, Kendi is pleased to work at Garmey Law and represent injured people here in Maine, the state she has chosen to make her forever home.
